THE BEGINNING
Valgroup’s story began in 1976, at a time when Brazil’s plastic packaging industry was still in its early stages of development. There was strong growth potential, but the market was not yet well structured. It was in this context that the company was founded under the name Valplast, which later evolved into Valgroup.
Operations started in Lorena, São Paulo, with a lean structure focused on building production capacity and developing the market. The early years were marked by significant challenges, including technological limitations, high equipment costs, a shortage of specialized labor, and difficulty accessing raw materials.
INVESTMENT
RECYCLING
In response to these challenges, the company adopted a strategy that would become one of its core pillars: investment in recycling. In the late 1970s, a polyethylene recycling line was implemented—an innovative initiative in Brazil at the time for reusing materials in plastic film production.
This movement enabled the development of competitive and scalable solutions, such as T-shirt type plastic bags, which brought significant cost and efficiency gains to retail, contributing to market expansion.
EVOLUTION OF
STRUCTURE
Over time, sustainability evolved from being simply an operational solution to becoming a strategic component of the business model. This positioning was further reinforced with the company’s entry into the PET packaging segment and consistent investments in recycling technologies. In 2008, the company reached an important milestone by obtaining authorization from ANVISA to use recycled PET in food-contact packaging, becoming a pioneer in Brazil.
