The history
Valgroup's BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene Film) unit was born from a strategic decision: to expand the company's industrial integration through the production of one of the main raw materials used by the Laminates unit in Lorena (SP). At a time when the national supply of BOPP was still limited, the investment represented an opportunity to strengthen domestic supply and expand the capacity to supply the market.
Transforming this project into an efficient operation, however, required overcoming significant challenges. Throughout the first few years, interventions and support from consultants helped to improve processes and enhance operational performance.
INVESTMENT
IN TECHNOLOGY
In 2016, a new phase began, marked by the strengthening of leadership and management in production, maintenance, and processes. These changes allowed for increasing levels of operational excellence and a boost in productivity of over 40%, using the same equipment.
This result represents one of the most important aspects of the unit's trajectory: its evolution did not occur through large expansions or the replacement of machines, but through the development of people, accumulated knowledge, and the ability to continuously improve processes.
The maturation of the operation also paved the way for new technological possibilities, such as the production of BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) equipment. With this development, Valgroup joined a select group of global manufacturers and became the only producer of this material in Brazil.
Expansion
Geographic
At the same time, the relationship between the BOPP unit and the company's other businesses evolved. Initially focused mainly on supplying the Laminates unit in Lorena, the operation began to balance internal supply with sales to the market, seeking decisions that contribute to the results of Valgroup as a whole.
With the consolidation of the plant, the strategy also progressed. The initial priority of ensuring volume and utilization of equipment gave way to a broader vision that considers profitability, long-term opportunities, and the development of products aligned with customer needs.
Operations
distributed
Sustainability has come to occupy an increasingly important place in these decisions. Solutions like BOPE reflect the search for alternatives that keep pace with the transformations in the packaging sector, always considering the industrial and commercial viability of each development.
LOOKING at
THE FUTURE
Throughout this journey, the unit has demonstrated that industrial evolution depends not only on new investments in equipment, but also on people, knowledge, well-established processes, and the ability to transform challenges into opportunities for improvement.
